Improvement of Access to SWFC

With the coming of the Expo, Shanghai’s traffic has greatly improved, especially in Lujiazui where the SWFC is situated. The opening of the circular elevated walkway over central Lujiazui and the new No. 6 exit of Metro Line 2 Lujiazui Station now make it very convenient for visitors to reach the SWFC by subway.

Enjoy summer at the SWFC

The SWFC cordially invites everyone to come and enjoy the summer at the special ‘Beer Garden’ event hosted in our Sunkun Garden. Even after the World Cup is over, the Beer Garden festivities will extend right throughout the summer. Two new large LED screens have been installed – one above the Sunkun Garden and the other on the wall above the gate of the SWFC Forum – to entertain visitors and to enrich the SWFC’s ‘information engine.’ (Right: Beer Garden in the SWFC last year, Left: LED screen above the Sunkun Garden)

New look for coffee bar SKY94

Coffee bar SKY94 finished its renewal at the Sky Arena 94 of the SWFC Observatory in June. Sky Arena 94 has a unique and extensive view of Shanghai’s skyline and covers a floor area of 750sqm with a clear ceiling height of 8m. With its beautiful panorama of the Huangpu River, the area is perfect for prestigious occasions such as high-profile corporate events. The space also has a souvenir photo service shop and an art & design shop.

Children’s Day at the SWFC

To celebrate International Children’s Day, the SWFC Forum welcomed around 20 children from Shanghai YueMiao Nursing Home for the Disabled. Meanwhile, 100 pupils from the earthquake-striken Yushu Prefecture of Qinghai Province visited the SWFC Observatory. The SWFC prepared Children’s Day gifts for all of them.
From June 4-6, a very successful ‘Family Garden’ event was held in the SWFC Sunkun Garden with the baby class, DIY cookie class and flower lecture proving to be the most popular. More than 3,000 guests enjoyed a happy weekend in our Family Garden. (Left: pupils from Yushu in SWFC Observatory, Right: DIY cookie class in “Family Garden”)

Events related to Japan Pavilion Day in SWFC

On June 12, the celebration of Japan Pavilion Day was held in the Expo Center. Former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong attended the celebrations. To coincide with Japan Pavilion Day, various events were held in the SWFC such as the ‘Kentoshi Ship’ press conference, ‘Japanese Ceramics Show -- Yang Guifei’s Dinner’ (Yang Guifei was one of the Four Beauties of Ancient China), and the opening ceremony of ‘2010 Shanghai International Film Festival / Japan Week.’
‘Kentoshi’ refers to the Japanese pioneers who came to China to study its advanced culture and political system during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907). The ship they came on – Kentoshi-sen – has been faithfully reproduced according to the ancient design, and is regarded as a symbol of friendship between Chinese and Japanese people.
